Alpha Reaction Timer

How fast is your reaction using sight? How fast do you react to sound?
How much do you slow down when you have make a simple judgment before you react, and how much if the judgment is more difficult?

You can use this app to test your reaction speed under all these different circumstances. There are 4 modes.

The first two modes are pure reaction tests. You take a sequence of ten samples and at the end you’ll see your best result and your average reaction time.
Mode 1 - Visual Cue - simple: Simply tap the start/stop button when the cue field changes from black to green.
Mode 2 - Auditory Cue: Same procedure, but you react to a beep only. There is no visual cue. Results tend to be faster.
A premature trigger in Modes 1 and 2 results in repetition of that step until 10 valid results have been obtained.

The second two modes are significantly more difficult: They involve making a quick decision as to whether to react or not.

Mode 3 - Visual Cue - complex: You select a color. Random colors show up in uneven succession, and you only react to the color you have chosen.
Mode 4 - Visual Cue - complex 2: You select 2 colors, one for the upper and one for the lower portion of the cue rectangle. React only when your colors show in the position you selected.

In Modes 3 and 4, a premature trigger, or one on the wrong colors erases all results and the sequence of ten starts over. The added pressure manifests itself most clearly toward the end of the sequence, when previously achieved good results are in jeopardy of being lost by a mistake.
